Evaluation Q7&8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

7&8.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?/ Audience feedback and comment.

The first shot has a better medium long shot framing compared to the second preliminary shot which has got a medium close up shot. however i feel that there should have been so much space at the top for the first shot. The difference between the two shots is that in the first shot the character fits into the frame and in the other shot the character doesn't. The shots above show how we have improved on framing.

These two screen grabs are quite similar except that the mise en scene is different i feel that the preliminary screen grab (on the right) looks better than the final product screen grab because its more close up therefore making it obvious that the framing is meant to be a close up shot. However i feel that the final screen grab (to the left) looks sharper and its mise en scene is so much better than the preliminary screen grab because it shows us that she is wearing a fur coat therefore giving us a clue to what role she plays in the clip. The gate being there gives us the feel that she is looked in and can't escape. Comparing this to the preliminary screen grab the mise en scene within this frame doesn't really show or tell us much about the characters role. This shows my progression in the mise en scene section.

Audience FeedBack and comment

This image was gotten from http://www.wordle.net/. I typed out the feed back i got from one of my audience and wordle picked out the words that came up the most from the feedback and enlarged them. I chose what colour font and setting i wanted.

Another form of audience fee back that i got was a video but it couldn't be uploaded to blogger due to technical difficulties. so i would use my back up plan which is the questionnaire i gave to my audience to get there feedback.

Evaluation Q6.What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES

This is the website i used to create my examples of how i would advertise my movie. e.g. billboards, bus stops, TV. etc. want to visit photofunia? click ->
http://www.photofunia.com/

The Art of the title sequence website basically shows you film title designs in 9shots all in one frame just as its been shown in the picture to the left.want to visit this website?click -> http://www.artofthetitle.com/

image shack is a quick and easy way of uploading pictures to blogger with the use of Html links.want to visit image shack? click->
http://imageshack.us/

This is blogger where i upload all my written work (bloggs), pictures and videos. it allows me to choose what font, colour and text i want to use.

The first three websites worked together in the creation of my blogg. With the help of photofunia i was able to give very clear examples of how i would advertise my film and what it would look like. the art of the title sequence helped me by giving me different ideas on font for my final product it also played a part in my research. image shackworked very well as my back up plan when there were technical problems with blogger. image shack allowed me to make my pictures in to urls so i could upload them to blogger.

LIVE TYPE

Live type was the one programme out of all three that i enjoyed using the most. i found it very easy and straight forward and it didn't take me as long to get the hang of it. i learnt how to add effects to fonts that i had chosen. I also learnt how to mix more than one effect onto a font to create an overall effect. The picture to the right is what you would normally see when live type is about to open.

This is what live type looks like when its been opened. The big screen with the green line on it is where the chosen text and effect appear. The space below that is where the effects are manipulated in order to achieve your desired product.

This is where the effects, fonts, objects and textures are chosen from.

FINAL CUT PRO

Final Cut Pro taught me how to edit and make my thriller opening run smoothly as one clip and make the movie look more professional. This was all done with technical tools in final cut pro. The features of Final Cut Pro allowed me to work faster and easier when editing.

Final Cut Pro gave us more creative options and technical control. I found Final Cut Pro quite easy to use inorder to create the effects and merge clips that i wanted. This was after i had gotten the hang of it. Final cut pro is very an advanced programme. When we had achieved our final sound from Sound Track Pro and final look from Live type, the product was then sent to final cut pro to be added to the opening sequence. final cut pro helped us put together the sound and fonts on to the already edited opening sequence.

Sound Track pro

we found sounds that reflected our thriller opening, which we selected from different genres that were listed in sound track pro, we came up with our final soundtrack that is featured on our thriller opening.

I found the process of using Sound Track Pro to create music very hard and frustrating because it was stressful having to look through all the genres to choose appropriate sounds that merged together well with other sounds.

However I learnt how to create a soundtrack with the help of my mates that sounded brilliant and suited our thriller opening.

Evaluation Q.3&4 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/ adress your audience

3&4. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/ adress your audience.

MEDIA INSTITUTION
The sort of media institution that would distribute my product would be Paramount or one of the top budget ones. This is because my thriller is a mixture or crime and sex and these sell, so you would expect a top media institution to be involved in this sort of film. I would also advertise my movie on bill boards, Busses, bus stops and TV.

4&5. WHO IS MY TARGET AUDIENCE AND HOW WILL I ATTRACT THEM?
My target audience are both females and males aged 18+not just in the uk. My target audience range from young to old and the Internet is a very good way of getting information around. I would attract my audience by advertising my movie on the internet (e.g. Itunes, Film4, Sky website, BBC) amongst other new releases so my target audience can see it. E.g. promote the release of the movie on face book. For the older target audience I would advertise my movie in newspapers (e.g. Daily mail, Metro, The Sun Etc) and magazines (e.g Heat, Teen Vogue, zoo etc). so they could come across the advert in the morning on their way to work. TV and bill boards e.g. so they are sure to always come across an advert of my movie. E.g. A bill board in central London amongst the offices and shops to advertise the movie. So my target audiences are bound to come across it.

These are examples of different types of media that would promote my movie e.g the movie could be sold synergously with other products such a box set including other thriller movies, it could be promoted on social networking websites and in magazines.

My movie would be shown at various cinemas such as

Evaluation Q2. How does your media product represent particular soicial groups

2.How does your media Product Represent particular social groups

REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN

This media product represents women in a negative way and there are no stereotypes involved in it. Women are represented in various way s in this film opening (vulnerable, strong, sexy Mysterious and dangerous) which I feel might confuse the audience but I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the audience are confused at first because its just the opening to the movie, if anything I think it’s a good thing because then they want to know how the movie unveils itself.

The first screen grab to the left represents women as sexy and self confident. The character looks in to the mirror and seems happy with herself. If you look closer it seems as though she has a slight grin. This could signify the fact that shes happy with the way she looks or is looking forward to what is about to happen. The screen grab to the right represents women as vulrenable and small. it seems as though the character feels uncomfortable with the man's hand on her shoulders but can't really do anything about it.

The first screen grab to the left is of the character telling off one of the workers. Do you notice the intimidating look? Also shes been shot from a low angle to make her appear superior to the man (worker). in the Screen grab to the right the character (woman) is about to give money
to the worker but is waiting for him to give her what she requested for. women are represented as intimidating and in control in the two screen grabs.

Evaluation Q 1 how my media product uses, develops or challenges forms and conventions of real media products.

1) In what ways does your media Product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product uses camera work sound and costume in various ways to develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media. In the opening of a film I expect to hear an I-dent or see a logo to represent the production company E.g. paramount. I also expect to see the names of the actors, make up and editing team. I definitely expect to see the editor's name, director and co-directors names. Some times I expect to see the credits on a plain black background or while the movies playing E.g. In The last seduction the credits where on a plain black background and lasted into the early minutes of movie. All of the things I expect to see in a real film such as The last seduction I found that I have them in my product. The last seduction isn't available on art of the title so what i would do is get screen grabs of My final product (The girl friend Experience) and compare it to screen grabs of The last seduction

The film opening (last seduction) shots compared to The Girl Friend Experience shots.

A similarity between the two screen grabs is that they are both presented on a plain black screen. The obvious difference is that they are two very different fonts and are two very different colours.

This shows that my product obviously uses the conventions of a real media product. Both screen grabs from the different opening scenes show who the movie is by.

Both screen grabs show the name of an actor.

Both screen grabs show information i expect to see in the opening of a thriller which is the production company. This shows that my product uses the conventions of a real media product.

Camera work

At the beginning of the movie we used a medium shot to introduce the main character then we used an extreme close up shot to show the smoke coming out of her mouth. This was done on purpose so we had a range of different shots. We also included a panning shot to show the area and to follow the character as she walked up the stairs. A close up of her foot was used to match cut the character stepping on to the stairs.

A close up was used again to show that the character’s feminine side. E.g. when she looked in to the mirror, to put on the lipstick. We added a medium close up shot to show the expression on the character’s face. e.g. when she turned back to look around on the stairs. This was done to add to our range of shots. We had another match cut of the character’s hand opening the gate. A close up shot of her hand was used to show this. We used a mix of medium shots, close ups and long shots to develop our product. The long shot was used to view the character as she walked further and further towards the stairs. Our movie is slow pace but I feel this plays an essential role to the opening of the thriller. To make sure it was not boring we made sure that the sound was a fast pace sound.

Editing

The editing was done with Final cut pro. We wanted to make sure the editing was superb. Therefore, we paid a lot of attention to the editing and made sure everything flowed. There was no parallel edits in our movie. This is because it wasn’t needed. It was all continuity editing from the beginning to the end. This is because there was just one character involved in the story line and everything was taking place in the same place with just that one character.

Sound

The sound was made with soundtrack pro. The sound was created to be suspenseful by making it increase during moments of tension. We also used silence as part of the sound because we felt that this would add to the tension. e.g. during the time the character walked up the stairs into the room it was quiet. By doing this the tension builds up and the audience don’t know what to expect. There was no dialogue used.

Costume

We used sunglasses in our costume to create mystery and hide the character’s identity we felt this adds to a thrilling opening. I felt that skin was an essential costume in our thriller because it gives the audience the idea that the character is a prostitute. E.g. when her dressed was moved off her shoulders by the man. To achieve the sophisticated look for the character we had to find the right costume. (black dress, smoky eyes, black heels furcoat)

DEVELOPS AND CHALLENGES

Our product definitely challenges convections of real media. Why do I say this? Well in real media, women are the homemakers, they cook, clean and look after the children and do not have jobs. Women are decent and not violent. Well our movie says other wise. This young lady (character) is dangerous and has given us clues to let us know this. Her facial expressions. Yes, her facial expressions let us know that she is up to no good that we are yet to find out about. We have also made her appear strong through body language, which is part of the mise on scene and camera shots. E.g. shooting the character from a low angle. She has a job of giving a helping hand to men. The character in our clip appears to be small and vulnerable (e.g. when the man placed his hand on her bare shoulder) which in a way supports convections of real media about women.

Skills Audit:creation of titles plus screen grabs

We used Live Type to create our title sequence and we added an effect so that they slide onto screan. We also colored the first letters read to represent blood and pain

Evaluation

1) In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Editing – (length of shots, transitions, continuity/parallel)
Our Thriller opening ‘The girlfriend experience’ can be compared to real media products because it uses many of the same media elements. Some of the media elements are as follows:
Editing – (length of shots, transitions, continuity/parallel) To edit our thriller opening sequence, we used Final Cut Pro on Apple Mac computers. This programme allowed us to match cut and chose from a range of transitions. For example we used fades between shots because without them the match cut looked strange and did not match. All of our shots were roughly the same length. However towards the end, the shot length slightly shortened which created a sense of urgency to the build of events.

Sound - (Music, Dialogue, FX)
We used Soundtrack Pro to create the soundtrack for our Thriller opening. Our aim was to create a minimalistic stlye piece. We could chose from a range of instruments, textures, sound effects and beats. We made the music sound eerie and suspenseful, for example we used a ticking effect throughout which creates a nerve racking atmosphere. We did not use much sound effects except for perhaps one, when the main character knocked on the front door. By adding the sound effect of the knock on the door, it made the knock significant and important. We didn’t use any diologue because we felt it would not fit in with the style of our opening.

Camerawork - (Angels, distances, framing)
After learning all the different types of camera shots and angles we made sure to use a good variety of shots. We used panning at the start to set the scene and establish location. We used extreme close ups, close ups, longs shots, arial and couple more. We wanted to do a tracking shot but we felt it would not be of good quality because we didn’t have the necessary equipment to make it smooth and not shaky.

Mise en scene - (Location, props, costume, lighting)

The location we chose to film at was in Shorditch. We thought it created a good snapshot of Urban London that gave the film a sense a reality and normal everyday life. As for the props we didn’t have very many props. We were going to have a knife as a significant prop, but we thought it would be too cheesy and bring down our mark. We dressed Meltem in smart and sexy clothing. She wore a black sequined dress, a large fur coat, a sparkly handbag, tights, black heals and shades.

Credits
We used a programme called Live type which is a professional text creator designed for titles and credits. We used red and white credits which are similar to The last seduction. I was impressed because they looked quite professional like credits of a real film.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our media product is presenting prostitutes as well groomed and smart. However, there is a dark side of prostitution which is all uncovered in our movie. A movie which is similar to ours is the Final seduction which has a similar story line.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product
Our Thriller Movie is a low budget film so large distribution companies such as Paramount or Warner will defiantly not be interested. There are various filmmakers which have become famous through Youtube. Therefore our opening sequence can reach people all around the world.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product
Our Thriller Movie is a low budget film so large distribution companies such as Paramount or Warner will defiantly not be interested. There are various filmmakers which have become famous through Youtube and so our film may be one of them.

4) How would you attract your audience?
The target audience for our film is 18 year olds and above. There is a lot of violence, blood and sexual scenes which will not be appropriate for people younger than the age stated. Therefore I would advertise in Libraries Bars and independent theatres. This way I will be reaching out to adults.

5) Who would be the audience for your media project?
The target audience for our movie is a mixture between men and women but I can imagine it will attract mostly men. The main character is a sexy lady which men will be attracted to and interested in watching. Violence is also a key characteristic of the film which men are more likely to enjoy than women.

6) The following photos is what is in the bag of a typical target audience' bag.

He will have a pack or cigarettes, a reading book, a photo of his girl friend and car keys.

7) Looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my preliminary task, I feel I have come along way with continuity. I am much more aware noow that continuity is extremely important. Now i feel i can confidently say that i can film a film, make a title sequence and add a soundrack to a film.

Audience feedback and comments
Our media product was viewed by the whole class and we received written feedback from one specific group. This was really helpful because it was interesting to see what our class’ views were about our film.

1) Choose one aspect of film language that has been used especially well in this movie an say why

The shots used in this thriller were done really well, I Also thought the shots when meltem looks into the mirror. The fades at the beginging of the film during the tracking shots flowed nicely.

2) Choose one aspect of film language that could be improved in this movie and explain how
I think the role of the main charater could be inproved or portrayed more clearly, because it is not entirely clear whether it is her choice to work as a prostitute or she is being forces, abused and uncomfortable with her work.

3) Can you recognise any stereotypes in this movie?

The stereotypes I recognised in this movie is a girlfriend/escort/prostitute

4) Can you think of any intertextual references with any other movies when you watch this movie? Explain.

This film is similar to a book called candy, which was Banned upon its initial publication, the now-classic Candy is a romp of a story about the impossibly sweet Candy Christian, a wide-eyed, luscious, all-American girl. Candy –– a satire of Voltaire’s Candide –– chronicles her adventures with mystics, sexual analysts, and everyone she meets when she sets out to experience the world, written by terry southern and mason hoffenborg.

5) Who do you think would be the audience for this movie?

The audience for the movie would be an 18+, as from the end of this thriller opening it began to become un appropriate for young ages. I would also think the audience for this film would be mostly women.

6) Write down 5 words which would describe this film

Sexual, suspenseful, glamorous, thrilling, mysterious

7) What sort of institution do you think would release this movie
I think this film would be submitted on the internet or be a small budjet film company.

Skills Audit : creation of titles (plus screen grabs of decision process)

We used Live Type to create our title sequence.. we put effects in it and colored one some letters in red.
