Skills Audit: Livetype and Sound

We finished editing our opening sequence which allowed us to continue onto the next two stages, using
  • Livetype
  • Soundtrack.

Livetype

LiveType is a software program developed by Apple Inc. to create animated title sequences for video projects. It
includ
es Fonts, Textures, Objects, Templates, Effects. Titles can be changed by..Size, Outline, Extrusion, Glow, Opacity, Tracking of the text, Drop shadow.

Soundtrack

Soundtrack is a
music editing and audio editing application where one can chose from over 5000 instrument loops and sound effects.

My group and i have managed to create a soundtrack to fit with our film opening. It helps set the scene, mood and manages to build up tension which is crucial in a Thriller Movie.

Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is used to edit video footage and perform light and sound editing tasks. We use this software in lesson to edit our Thriller opening sequence.

I now know how to...
  • Drag clips onto the Timeline
  • Piece clips together (match cutting)
  • Delete clips
  • View clips in The Viewer
  • View my final product in The Canvas
  • Edit/Crop/Snap/Add effects (eg fade in) on the Time Line
  • Inpoint/Outpoint

Thriller Sub-Genres

Here are all the Thriller sub-genres.
  • Action
  • Conspiracy
  • Crime
  • Disaster
  • Drama
  • Science-fiction
  • Horror
  • Erotic
  • Legal
  • Medical
  • Political
  • Psychological
  • Spy
  • Techno
  • Religious
  • Comedy
At the moment, one of my favorite thrillers is Jeniffer's body. It is a Thriller-comedy and it is about two best friends - a ridiculously hot high school cheerleader Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) and an Nerdy book worm Needy Lesnicky (Amanda Seyfried) . They fall out when Jenniferbecomes possessed and turns into a man-eating succubus. I particularly liked it because it is light-hearted, and i experienced suspense as well as funny moments which i thought was a nice mix.

intro to cameras and health and safety tutorial

JVC GY-HM100E Camcorder

each group was issued with two cards which will allow
up to 1hr 40min recording time. The cards should be kept in their protective case when not in use.
Each card is numbered to correspond to the Hard Drive
we are using. i.e. Hard Drive 5 will have cards 5a and 5b.
The cards will remain in the media office as backup till your
project has been completed.

The cards are inserted into the slots
beneath the viewfinder with the label facing up.
They click into place.
Close the flap.

The battery clicks into place by placing it into
the compartment and sliding it to the left.

The battery is released by pressing the
button (circled) and sliding to the right.
The battery will give you about 2 hours recording time.

The lens cover is operated by the lever next to the focus ring.
Keep the lens cover closed when not in use.
Never touch the lens.

Pressing ‘Full Auto’ repeatedly switches between AUTO and MANUAL shooting modes (displayed in the viewfinder as ‘A’ or ‘M’).
Press ‘AF/MF’ to switch
between Manual
Focusing (MF) and
Automatic Focusing (AF).
This is displayed in the
viewfinder.

The viewfinder is on the side.
Continually pressing index (arrowed) scrolls
through the information screens. They show:
1. How much recording time you have remaining, and
2. How much battery power is left.
DO NOT touch the screen.

Scroll through your clips using the toggle switch.
Select a clip and press the toggle switch to play.

Press CAM/MEDIA to switch between
Recording and Playback.
In Playback mode each clip is displayed
as shown above.

When recording, you can press ‘Q.Review’ (arrowed) to instantly
playback the last few seconds of your shot.

Turning on the ND filter reduces the light coming
into the camera.
Use when filming in bright sunlight.

W and T are the zoom in and out buttons.

The camera slides onto the tripod…

…and is locked into place with the lever (arrowed).

Important information-
Don’t change the menu settings. The camera is preset to work with Final Cut Pro. Changing the menu settings could result in incompatible footage and will create real problems when you come to edit.
Look after the Camera. Treat the camera with extreme care. Do not let it get wet (there are large umbrellas provided if you are filming in the rain). Responsibility for the equipment rests with the whole group. All members of the group will be charged for the cost of repair if they are found to have been careless with the equipment.
we were warned…
To check before we leave the building. It is our responsibility to check that all the equipment is working before we leave the college. Especially the camera and any battery operated kit.

Calm.....
I thougth that this image was a good example to show calm as its an image of clouds with very soft mixtures of white and blue. it indicates escapism as its the top of the world, like an empty place with no rules to be followed. it denotes calm, freedom, escapism and softness. as its light coloured.

HaPpYnEsS

This is an image of two girls who jump around freelylike little children as if they dont care about anything and have no problems, living a life full of happyness. They have a big smile intheir faces which shows that they are happy and enjoying what ever their doing.
What is Suspense?
Suspense is a feeling of uncertainty about what will happen next. A way suspense can be created is by using a cliff hanger which is when the ending is uncertain keeping the audience exited, at the edge of their seat.
An example of a suspense movie is Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock which is a psychoanalytical thriller and contains a lot of suspense keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.

Here is a clip that you can watch of Psycho, full of suspense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG3-GlvKPcg
